“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” scored a leading 11 nominations Tuesday for the 2016 MTV Movie Awards, the off-beat movie honors famed for non-traditional categories such as best kiss, best fight, best villain and best virtual performance.

“Star Wars” was nominated for movie of the year, along with “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Creed,” “Deadpool,” “Jurassic World” and “Straight Outta Compton.”

“Deadpool,” the film about a wisecracking superhero played by Ryan Reynolds, earned eight nominations for the “Golden Popcorn” statuettes, while “Avengers: Age of Ultron” scored six.

Oscar nominees “The Revenant” and “The Big Short” were nominated for MTV awards for “true story,” as were “Concussion,” “Joy,” “Steve Jobs” and “Straight Outta Compton.”

Leonardo DiCaprio, who won his first best-actor Oscar for “The Revenant,” was nominated for best male performance. Oscar nominee Matt Damon is also in the category for “The Martian,” along with Chris Pratt for “Jurassic World,” Michael B. Jordan for “Creed,” Reynolds for “Deadpool” and Will Smith for “Concussion.”

For best female performance, Alicia Vikander was nominated for her role as a self-aware robot in “Ex Machina.” Vikander won the best supporting actress Oscar this year for her work in a different film, “The Danish Girl.” She will compete for the MTV honor with Anna Kendrick for “Pitch Perfect 2,” Charlize Theron for “Mad Max: Fury Road,” Daisy Ridley for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Jennifer Lawrence for “Joy” and Morena Baccarin for “Deadpool.”

The MTV Awards ceremony will be taped at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank on April 9, and air the following night. The ceremony is expected to be filmed primarily outdoors on the studio backlot “to capture the essence of movie-making magic.”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and comedian Kevin Hart will host the ceremony.

Fans can vote on the winners online at www.MovieAwards.MTV.com until March 20.
